The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act sets out specific information and privacy rights with regard to information that is collected or controlled by public bodies in British Columbia. Information provided in applications and related documentation may be subject to a request for records under the Act. Applications may contain proprietary information, personal information and information supplied in confidence by the applicant. The Act protects from disclosure financial, commercial or technical information that has been supplied in confidence, where it would be harmful to the business interests of the applicant to disclose. The Act also prohibits the unauthorized collection, use or disclosure of personal information.
